Hello, World! My name is Ana Bonavides, but you can call me Annie. I am an artist, STEM passionate, traveling enthusiast, and knowledge seeker.
I created this blog a long time ago and tried to use it as a platform to talk about my life, experiences, and what I love…But I never really put what I wanted into it.
Nevertheless, the time has come to give it another try, and leave a piece of my mind, heart, and soul somewhere where people can reach: the internet.

I intend for this space to initiate dialogue about topics I find essential and am passionate about, even if the dialogue is between me, myself and I.

How I got where I am
A Mexican studying in Austria tends to raise questions, and after almost two years of being here, I still have no convincing answers. Why did I move with no family, people I knew, or plan? Was it bold? Was it dumb? Do I regret it?
I moved to Austria because I was looking for a new life, new experiences, and new challenges…And Oh boy did I get exactly what I asked for!!
I am here to continue learning everything that life throws at me. Whether it is fighting the drier that does not seem to be doing its job with my clothes, cooking whole meals after being unable to boil water, or coming up with a Bachelor’s thesis.
And I have found who I am in the weirdest places, like being lost in the streets of Venice or waiting for the metro in Vienna.
My artsy-bitsy me
Cause…art, you know?
Art has always been a key part of my life. It has been my outlet to express myself when words are not enough. And it always weirded me out when people said that “hard science” folks were not creative, and art people cannot do math…As if having one passion cancels out a second one.
That stereotype has been going around for ages, and it is time that we break it. What you like doing does not define all the other abilities you can have. We, humans, have the amazing capabilities of exploring other horizons and learning how to get involved with them!
Just like some athletes can go from training American football in the morning to cheerleading in the afternoon, artists can leave their drawing course to their coding lesson.
In my case, that has been my whole life. The first contest I won was a drawing competition when I was 8. It felt amazing to be “officially” recognized as an artist! And that same year was also when I joined my first Robotics team.
Do you see? You don’t need to pick one area and forget the other! Art, sciences, sports…they have room for everyone; you have to step in!
